Dermatologist duties and responsibilities at the Syracuse VA Medical Center:
- Provide general Dermatology consultation and services in keeping with good clinical practice and standards of the Acute/Specialty ICC Service at the Syracuse Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and SUNY Upstate Medical University (UMU), where you will be asked to apply for an academic appointment commensurate with your experience and education.
- Close supervision and education of residents and fellows in all their clinical activities when rotating through the Dermatology service.
- Develop and participate actively in a Tele-dermatology program in Syracuse which will be accessible for patients throughout the entire VISN-2 Network.
- Collaboration with the physicians, physician extenders, nursing care providers and all other ancillary staff in the hospital as needed.
- Provide expertise in multispecialty and patient care related discussions.
- As a Chief physician in the section of Dermatology, you will be encouraged to participate in the development or on-going research, quality improvement and teaching as it relates to your professional interests.
- Provide inpatient and outpatient consultation in Dermatology services and any necessary education required to all provider staff as needed during your regular tours of duty.
- Provide Dermatologic clinical procedures within your specialty area of expertise as needed.
- Function as an active member of the Dermatology section in the Department of Medicine of the Syracuse Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
- Maintain Dermatology board certification and continuing medical education to maintain that certification.
- You will be expected to serve on Peer review, and potentially other committees as requested by the Medical Center Director, Chief of Staff, Deputy Chief of Chief, Chief of Medicine or the Specialty Service Chief as needed.
- You will be expected to be in compliance with the Medical Staff bylaws and will complete all medical records timely through CPRS (Computerized Patient Record System) in accordance with VA Policies and Regulations.
- All attending physicians are expected to participate in ongoing process improvements within their specific areas of expertise thereby promoting quality, efficiency, patient safety, and timely access to care for our veteran patients.
- All Medicine service providers are asked to become involved in teaching residents, fellows and undergraduate medical students within their areas of expertise.
- All physicians are actively engaged in completing quarterly chart reviews and other quality assurance work within the department.
- Will ensure timely record completion for all patients as outlined in the Medical Staff Bylaws.
- All physicians are expected to attend quarterly General Medical Staff meetings and monthly Medicine department staff meetings when they are on duty.
- As a Chief Dermatologist, it will be your responsibility to oversee care in your area and ensure evidence-based clinical practices are in place and followed by all staff members for the best possible outcomes for our patients.
- You will also be expected to promote a cooperative and collegial environment within your area.
- You will be responsible for oversight of care rendered by physician extenders within your area.
